Creative Arts projects

Over the past few years Spinnaker has extend its programme of RE and collective worship by bringing a creative approach that enhances the curriculum, and extends the children's experience and understanding of RE and the arts. The Spinnaker Creative Arts Network is a vehicle to release and inspire those who get excited about offering children the chance to discover the significance of Christianity through the use of Creative Arts.

Spinnaker has a network of people with varied skills that can offer schools workshops, lessons and performances. Schools can request them to run these activities, some of which are half-day workshops, and others build up over several weeks, resulting in a presentation by pupils.

Schools are asked to contribute to the cost of these special activities. See details in our list of Spinnaker Creative Arts Projects.

Successful projects have included:

  • Developing and touring with two productions around 18 schools as re:act2 theatre company
  • Large scale mosaic art projects
  • Gospel song workshops
  • Dance projects that explore the Easter story

Schools have appreciated the innovative creativity that this has brought to children. The focus of the work started in the Orpington area. However, the aim is to extend this work in other South London boroughs. The head teacher of one Bromley School with whom we have been developing this approach said, 'we are very grateful for the opportunity you gave us to experience the work of The Spinnaker Trust for the first time. Thank you for the wonderful presentation your group gave to our school'.

The Spinnaker Creative Arts Network is seeking people to join them, who can offer one-off, innovative RE, collective worship and PSHE activities to primary schools through the Creative Arts, from a Christian perspective. There is a very real opportunity for this style of work in schools at the moment. These people should have a variety of skills that will help us provide workshops, lessons and performances, that actively involve primary age children and help them engage with Christian concepts.
